Labor Day weekend seemed to sneak up on us, didn’t it? Between wrapping up summer, getting the kids back in school, and returning to a normalized schedule, Labor Day weekend always seems to be a nice unexpected surprise. To celebrate the holiday, the HAPARI team has put together a list of our favorite fun ideas. What an amazing concept (right?) - an entire holiday dedicated to having work off?! Whether you have plans or not, we’re encouraging you to make the most of your long weekend and celebrate the fruits of your hard labor!

5 Labor Day Weekend Ideas

Visit National Monuments & Parks

You have the day off - so go do something new and adventurous with your day! Check out your local state tourism site and find the nearest national monument or park near you. Whether it’s 30 minutes away by metro or four hours away by car, pack up the kiddos, bring some snacks and set off on a new adventure. Remember, thanks to the Every Kid in A Park program, all 4th graders get free admittance into National Parks for an entire year!

Catch a Baseball Game

Take the fam to a baseball game! If you live in a city where there’s a major league baseball team consider yourself lucky and make sure you utilize that privilege (because not all of us are so lucky!).  If you fall in the ‘unfortunate category’ with me, then check out a minor league game. It’s always worth going out to the ballgame for a great night out!

Check out a Local Museum

Want to do something educational with your kids during the day? Take them to your local Natural History Museum or check out the Science Planetarium. Many of these local museums offer discounted admission on holidays as a way to encourage attendance. Spend a few hours learning something new with the kids!

Potluck Dinners with Friends

Don’t have kids? Grab a group of your friends and host a potluck dinner at a local park or beach. Make it inexpensive by sending out food assignments and letting everyone provide their own drinks. Why not play some Texas Hold 'Em  after dinner? Or roast marshmallows? Or just relax under the stars? Labor Day is a perfect time to reconnect friendships and make new memories.
