October is one of my favorite months and it’s finally here! Think autumn, sweaters, boots, and pumpkin-everything! Ahhh! And, who can forget about the ultimate October tradition, Halloween?! As I’ve grown older, it has truly become my favorite holiday. As an adult and parent, the other holidays are a lot of work! Halloween has less expectation surrounding it. It’s simple, fun and enjoyable!
To kick off the month, we’ve compiled our favorite DIY Halloween Decorations to transform your home into the perfect haunted house!
Spooky Tin Can Luminaries
Create spooky luminaries to light up your front porch or walk ways for Trick-or-Treaters! These simple lights are cheap, easy, and a quick DIY project!
Supplies
- Tin Cans (used coffee cans work great)
- Sharpie
- Nails
- Hammer
- Candles
Directions
Remove all wrappings and glue from tin can. Write ghostly phrase or word on the tin cans with sharpie marker. Slowly start to trace the words by creating small holes with the nails and hammer. Try to keep holes closely spaced. Light candle. Done! Spooky lights to illuminate your home!
Ghostly Front Yard Haunts
Want to really creep out the neighbors? Make these scary-accurate ghosts for your front yard! Made from chicken wire, these ghosts will spook kids and adults alike.
Supplies
- Chicken Wire
- Tools to sculpt wire
- Glow-in-the-dark Spray Paint
Directions
This project is where you can really let your creativity loose! Want to make an eerie ghost? What about a friendly pumpkin? With this project you really can make whatever you want. We like the idea of a creepy floating dress (as seen above). Take your chicken wire and use tools (i.e. hammer, pliers, etc.) to create the shape and model of the character. Once you have the form created, spray paint the wire with glow-in-the-dark paint. Place in yard. Viola! The neighbor kids may be too scared to even ask for treats on Halloween!
Fanged-Pumpkins
These scary, and yet somehow still cute, pumpkins work as great centerpieces or party favors!
Supplies
- Small Pumpkin
- Vampire Teeth (go to a dollar store to find these)
- Push Pins
Directions
Carve a ‘mouth’ for your fanged-pumpkin. Make sure to make it big enough so the vampire teeth can easily fit inside. Add push pins for eyes. It’s that easy! Create a tiny army of fanged pumpkins or just have one especially devilish one ready to bite!
