The eyebrow was once hardly considered when applying makeup. Today, it’s the hottest trend; Yep, the well-defined brow, ladies and gentleman, is the new pouty lip. The equivalent of the smokey eye in the early 2000s, the well-groomed, and oftly perfectly arched, brow is dominating the beauty landscape. The eyebrow has been the center of public attention for the last few years; bringing with it plenty of new trends. Some of them good (Wahoo! full natural brows are back!), and some of them not so good (eyebrows with sharpie-esque precision).

Today, we’re sharing the newest eyebrow trends for 2016!

New Shapes!

In 2016, we see brows hitting the streets with a look that’s very bed-head-meets-I-woke-up-like-this. This year, the thicker, the better, and the more natural the better. Say goodbye to heavily traced and perfectly shaped brows. Another new trend? Using ‘brow’ pomade to make individual brows hairs stick straight up and to combat the drawn on pencil look even more.

Due in no small part to the release of Glossier's genius Boy Brow pomade, sprouts (the hairs that stick up and out at the beginning of the brow) will be brushed up in 2016. Yet another secret to the sneaky no-makeup makeup look, the flyaway hairs are inherently youthful to boot.

Eyebrow Microblading

If you were tempted to tattoo your eyebrows on, don’t do it yet! This year there’s an amazing alternative to permanent makeup, eyebrow microblading! While some tattooed eyebrows can look great, others can end up with a very severe “sharpie” look. Eyebrow Microblading is similar to permanent makeup in that it’s designed to last for a long period of time, but the specific technique in the application makes it only last up to one year. To get a natural, defined-yet-subtle look, pigment is depositing manually in the basal layer of the epidermis by a special pen. Unlike permanent makeup brow treatments, Microblading techniques involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that are more natural looking than tattooing, brow pencils or powders.

Eyebrow Extensions

If the idea of microblading your brows still seems a bit intense then you might want to try eyebrow extensions. This technique is similar to eyelash extensions; the process involves gluing tiny hairs to your eyebrows to help reshape or repair damaged sparse brows. The process is the least permanent brow fix of the three trends, lasting anywhere from two to three weeks.
