The 4th of July is just a few days away! For Americans this holiday represents the epitome of summer barbecues; hot dogs and burgers, fireworks, scorchin’ hot weather, melting popsicles, and running around bare footed. It’s personally one of my favorite holidays all year! There’s amazing food, family, friends, and celebrating our nation’s independence.

For your backyard barbecue, you’re probably highly likely to cook meat of some sort. Afterall, most people in the US eat meat. In fact a recent study by Forbes found that the average American eats over 200 lbs of meat every year — that’s a lot of meat! For people with specific food preferences like vegans and vegetarians, finding something to eat at a typical 4th of July barbecue can be really difficult.

Today, we’re sharing our favorite vegan veggie burger recipes so all your vegan and vegetarian family and friends can enjoy the 4th of July barbecue too! And, people who just want to cut down on their meat consumption (200 lbs worth!) may like this alternative burger option too.

Our article The DIY Vegan Veggie Burger: Perfect for Your Next BBQ has all the details. Whether you’re a meat-eater to the core or you prefer more veggie-based burgers, you’re sure to love our vegan veggie recipe below.

Vegan Falafel Burger

Last but not least, we’re featuring an all-time favorite veggie burger — the Falafel! Now, falafels aren’t really burgers, but they sure can be! The traditional Middle Eastern cuisine is made from crushed chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), and several seasonings like cilantro, lemon juice, and chili powder. As if that wasn’t enough to get your mouth watering, this tasty vegan falafel burger recipe from Chow Hound features greek yogurt, tomatoes, and lettuce! Eat with a bun for an American burger-style or eat with a pita in a more traditionally falafel way. Either way, you’ll love sharing this delicious meal with your friends and family.
