Of course we love chocolate, who doesn't? Chocolate seems to make everything better and it can be made into almost any form from drinks to cakes, but why do we love it so much? We love it so much it even has it's own holiday! That's right, September 13th is International Chocolate Day and we couldn't be happier to have a valid excuse to indulge all day long! It's actually proven to be America's favorite flavor in comparison to vanilla and even berry flavored delectables! That's why we've found the best chocolate recipes around for you to treat you or your sweetie to this season!

In honor of such a splendid occasion, it's only right we prepare some of our favorite recipes to treat our friends and family! Sure, you can give chocolates on Valentine's Day or Sweetest Day, but this is a day for everyone...plus, who can wait until February? Honestly?!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 ounces butter, melted
  • 2 large free range eggs, beaten
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup of chopped toasted pecans
  • 2 handfuls of mini marshmallows

Frosting

  • 2 ounces butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup icing sugar, sifted

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9 inch flan pan with a removable bottom well and then set aside.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat together the butter, eggs and vanilla.
  4. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Stir in the toasted nuts.
  5. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake on a middle shelf of the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Immediately sprinkle the marshmallows on top and return to the oven for a few minutes to melt the marshmallows.
  7. Remove from the oven and carefully spread the chocolate frosting over top.
  8. To make the chocolate frosting mix all ingredients together in a bowl, beating with an electric whisk until smooth and thick. Spread on the hot marshmallows.

Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs $
  • 2 cups 2% reduced-fat milk $
  • 1/4 cup Frangelico (hazelnut-flavored liqueur)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen fat-free whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped hazelnuts, toasted

Preparation

  1. Combine the sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, salt, and eggs in a medium bowl, stirring well with a whisk.
  2. Heat milk over medium-high heat in a small, heavy saucepan to 180° or until tiny bubbles form around edge (do not boil). Gradually add hot milk to sugar mixture, stirring constantly with a whisk. Place the milk mixture in pan, and cook over medium heat until very thick and bubbly (about 5 minutes), stirring constantly. Spoon mixture into a medium bowl, and add liqueur, vanilla, and chocolate, stirring until chocolate melts. Place bowl in a large ice-filled bowl for 15 minutes or until mixture is cool, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove bowl from ice. Gently fold in one-third of whipped topping. Fold in remaining topping. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. Sprinkle with hazelnuts.

Ingredients

  • 3.38 ounces all-purpose flour (about 3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup bittersweet chocolate chunks, divided
  • 1/3 cup fat-free milk $
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted $
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten $
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, divided
  • Cooking spray

Preparation

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. 2. Weigh or lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour and next 5 ingredients (through salt) in a large bowl. Combine 1/2 cup chocolate and milk in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave at HIGH 1 minute, stirring after 30 seconds. Stir in butter, vanilla, and eggs. Add milk mixture, 1/2 cup chocolate, and 1/4 cup nuts to flour mixture; stir to combine.
  3. 3. Pour the batter into a 9-inch square metal baking pan coated with cooking spray; sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup nuts. Bake at 350° for 19 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs clinging. Cool in the pan on a rack. Cut into squares.
