Woman Wearing Hapari Push -UP Bikini Top

Summer is here! It’s time to throw on your favorite HAPARI suit and head to the beach. If you’re like me, your skin may still have that faint greenish tinge (yuck, I know) from lack of sun exposure for the past months. While it’s okay to thoroughly blame winter for the blinding glare of transparent skin, it’s time to do something about it— like try one of our FAVORITE natural self-tanner recipes!

We all know it’s important to avoid sunbathing and tanning beds at all costs as these tanning techniques can cause premature aging and melanoma, a form of skin cancer. It’s also not great to spray chemicals all over your skin to change the color via spray tanning. Instead try an all-natural, do-it-yourself solution to get gorgeous bronze skin.

Today, we’re sharing our favorite natural self-tanner recipes to create a glowing tan just in time for summer.

Our Favorite Natural Self-Tanner Recipes Below

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!

Our first natural self-tanner recipe involves coffee! It’s truly a miracle worker and a natural self tanner. Here’s the scoop, this recipe is quite messy so make sure to apply in the tub to prevent coffee splatters all over the house.

Coffee Grounds on spoons on top of Coffee Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coffee grounds
  • 3 tbsp boiling water
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1.5 tbsp refined-expeller-pressed sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions: Apply in the tub to prevent splattering. Add all ingredients into a blender and mix until thoroughly combined. Use mixture like a shower scrub, carefully rub all over your body. The mixture will work as a natural exfoliant. The coffee grounds will dye your skin a few subtle shades darker. Repeat every other shower for a natural, healthy glow all summer long!

Tea Bags for Tan Legs!

This natural remedy is one of our favorite do-it-yourself secrets of all time! Tea bags are a great way to naturally and safely create a dye for skin. Grab your favorite black tea (extra points for picking one that smells great!), your kettle/teapot, a spray bottle and you’re good to go! This recipe is so easy and affordable (total cost of ingredients is $3 or less) you have to try it!

Tea Bags

Ingredients

  • 6 bags of black tea
  • 1 teapot
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 spray bottle

Directions: Bring water to a boil. Once water is bubbling carefully steep tea bags in the water. Make sure to allow enough time for each tea bag to fully release color and natural antioxidants. After each of the tea bags is fully steeped, set mixture aside to cool. As an option, place water and tea mixture in the fridge for faster cooling results. Once mixture is adequately cool to the touch, pour mixture into a spray bottle. Carefully spray on legs. Use a makeup sponge to carefully blot any streaks.

Crikey, Carrots?!

Yep, you read the headline right; not only are carrots a fantastic food to help with eyesight, carrots can be used to create a natural self tan. Now you have another reason to pick up a bag of carrots the next time you’re grocery shopping. This recipe is fairly simple to make, calling for just four ingredients: carrots, brown sugar, coconut oil, and water. As natural and healthy as it gets, right?! Give this DIY recipe a try today!

Carrots on the Stove

Ingredients

  • ¾ gallon water
  • 1 pound fresh carrots
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 spray bottle

Directions: Bring water to a boil. While water is boiling, carefully cut carrots into tiny slices. Once water is bubbling, add carrots, brown sugar and coconut oil. Cover pot and let cook on medium heat for three hours. This allows the color of the carrots to pull into the water and mix with the other ingredients.

After three hours of cooking, strain mixture being sure to keep the liquid and removing the chunks of carrots. Once mixture is adequately cool, pour mixture into a spray bottle. Carefully spray on legs. Use a makeup sponge to carefully blot any streaks. Repeat every few days for a summer glow-y!
