HAPARI fam! We are close to the end of January and that means it’s time to check in on your New Year’s Resolutions. Take a deep breath, and answer honestly: how have your New Year’s Resolutions been going? Determined to hit the gym more? How has that been going? Perhaps your goal was to save more money each paycheck. Progress there? Now is the time to do a check in and see where we are with our goals.
According to a report by US News, 80% of people fail their New Year’s Resolutions by mid-February. So, we are on a mission to reinvigorate, remotivate, and help you keep on track with your New Year’s Resolutions so you can in the 20% of the population who succeeds at their resolutions for the year.
Check out the tips below to stay on track this year
1. Set a Schedule
My New Year’s Resolution is to go to the gym more. Shocker! Like most of the population, my goals center around fitness. However I’ve been fairly successful this year and my number one tip for actually showing up and making it to the gym is this: set a schedule. Then stick to it.
Sounds obvious, yes, but if you tell yourself “I just need to go to the gym at some point today” you will not do it. You’re busy, we’re all busy, and life will get in the way. Instead of having to make a decision each day about when you are going to the gym and when you can fit the time in, put a set time on your calendar each day to go to the gym. Then go, and don’t make it an option for yourself to not go.
For example, as a busy working mom, the only time I can fit it in my schedule to go to the gym everyday is 5 am. So, I set my alarm for 4:45 am every morning and just get up, make it a “must-do”, and not a choice each day if I’ll go. Try this out and see how it works for you!

2. Start Small
Recognize your successes and start small. No matter what your New Year’s Resolution is, it’s important to take a look at where you were when you first set out your intentions and where you are now. Likely, there has been growth. Over the past few weeks you’ve grown and taken steps towards your goals; and that needs to be celebrated! People often give up on their resolutions around this time because they are discouraged by their progress. Flip the narrative and consider all the achievements you have made so far. Then start small with little incremental steps towards kicking up your goals up a notch, day by day.

3. Tell People
It can be scary and vulnerable to share your goals and resolutions with your family and friends. In fact, a 2019 study by Howard Klein from Ohio State University cited that, “Contrary to what you may have heard, in most cases you get more benefit from sharing your goal than if you don’t – as long as you share it with someone whose opinion you value.”
In other words, we do not need to go after our goals alone. Share your aspirations and goals with someone whose opinion you value. By speaking the words out loud, you help reinforce the intention with yourself and you ignite a drive to prove that you can do it to others.
