Do you ever feel like you have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. While it’s one of those ‘good’ problems to have, it can still be frustrating and irritating. If you’re nodding your head in agreement and know the feeling, it’s time for Spring Cleaning For Your Closet.

Sort Your Clothing - Keep, Maybe, Donate

The great part about the idea of spring cleaning your closet is that it means you’re able to rid yourself of unwanted and unused clothing. Remember the rule: if you haven’t worn it in over a year, it’s time to donate it. Start by sorting through all of your clothes (yep, old t-shirts, socks, undergarments, workout wear, all of it!) Make three piles:
- Keep - these include items you wear often and regularly.
- Probation Clothes - these items haven’t been worn in a while. Give these clothes a probation period. Put them at the front of your closet and see if you wear them in the next 6 months. If you do, keep em. If you don’t, donate.
- Donate - Having too much ‘stuff’ actually causes more stress. So declutter your closet. If you haven’t worn something in over a year, it’s time to donate it. And, no, you don’t need ten old t-shirts for the day you decide to finally paint the downstairs. Keep one or two!
Shop Strategically

One of the really problematic issues with our society is that we mass consume goods; meaning, we buy really cheap, poor quality items, that we keep for a short period of time. We do this over and over again, especially in commercial fashion, constantly wanting the newest ‘trend.’ The result? We have poorly made clothing that doesn’t fit correctly and that is literally meant to fall apart after a few wears.
We say shop strategically. Allow yourself a budget for each season - Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Each season you can buy 8-10 new quality items. That’s it! Since each season lasts only 3 months, you should be able to incorporate these items in your wardrobe to freshen up looks. By buying quality items, you’ll soon have a nice closet full of clothes you’ll actually want to keep for years.
That’s it! Pretty easy right? Follow these tips and you’ll have a closet full of curated pieces you actually want to wear!
