This summer it’s time to hit the books! With the kids out of school, it’s a great time to encourage your kiddos (and yourself!) to catch up on some leisure reading. Your kids don’t have to read a certain book for school, so why not offer them a few great choices of books they can read for fun. They’ll love it!

At HAPARI, we’ve made it a goal to read three books over the summer. That means we need to read one book each month starting in June. Check out our top picks in HAPARI’S SUMMER READING LIST 2015.

  1. Little Bee by Chris Cleave

An inspiring and memorable story, Little Bee, follows the journey of a Nigerian asylum-seeker and a British magazine editor who meet during the oil conflict in the region and are later reunited in England. The book topped the New York Times Bestseller list.

  1. The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

If you and your family loved Harry Potter, check out this book by Robert Galbraith, or shall we sayJK Rowling. Rowling published the book under a pseudonym in order to get accurate feedback on the quality of the book. You have to respect her for that! This book follows Cormoran Strike, a down-on-his-luck detective on one of the biggest murder mystery cases London has ever seen.

  1. I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

Looking for an inspiring true story? Check out I Am Malala, the true story of 15-year-old Malala who was shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating for girls rights to education. The story follows the inspiring story of Malala and how she not only survived the attack but became a world leader in the fight for education in the Middle East.

  1. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

The first of a series of books, The Mysterious Benedict Society, follows the story of a group of misfit kids as they discover and solve mysteries. The books have topped the New York Times Bestseller list!

  1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

The story of two unlikely friends - one an angry teen with a troubled past and the other a nerdy know-it-all. This story follows the teens as they discover their true selves, navigate growing up and the adventures of their unlikely friendship.

  1. The Haunted Library by Dori Hillstead Butler

The first in a series of books, The Haunted Library, follows the tale of Kaz, a ghost boy torn from his ghost family. Kaz soon befriends a human girl named Claire, who has a special ability to see ghosts. The two become friends and must solve the mystery of the ghost haunting the public library.

  1. Timmy Failure: Mistakes were Made by Stephan Pastis
